377

377 is a play about the grief and trauma of gun violence told through the perspective of high schoolers before and after a school shooting. We would like to address concerns head on by stating that no violence is ever portrayed on stage and we have put in months of research ahead of writing this and have continued to research and have the play read by professionals with the goal of making the play as accurate as possible.

More Information

Since 2020 guns have been the leading cause of death for children and teens every year. (NPR) This is partially due to school shootings.  As High Schoolers we often see these terrible things in the world and wonder what we can do to help.  Sure donating money or going to a protest is great, but more important than doing something yourself is convincing others to do something as well.  At Sarlo Theatre Productions we fully believe that art has the power to change the world.  This is why we wrote 377: to convince our community and our country to change.  When we see information about tragedies in other places we often disassociate because we can't imagine it happening where we live.  377 forces the audience to grow attached to the characters and imagine it is their school and their community, demanding that the audience imagines what a school shooting is actually like rather than just looking at facts on a screen.  377 shocks the audience into action and convinces them to find a way to make their world better for everyone in it.
